Gifts from the sea...

A channeled duck clam shell

Noticing

• the pattern of curving lines

• shades of soft brown, creamy white

• the variety of colours and texture in the grains of sand. So much to observe

• the sparkling bits of mica, the glassy quartz, the tiny grains of sandstone

• the pebbles worn smooth by sea and surf

• light and shadow

Recalling

• the rhythmic crash of surf on sand

• the taste of salt on lips

• the warmth of sun on my neck

• the perfect curl of waves breaking into foamy white

• the plaintive cry of circling gulls

• the salty tang of sea air

• the flickering glint of sunlight dancing on waves

• the endlessly rolling surge

• the immeasurable breadth of the horizon
