of memes and debts of honour

I feel like Amy in Little Women with her pickled limes…
Tell me all about it. Are limes the fashion now? It used to be pickling bits of rubber to make balls’; and Meg tried to keep her countenance, Amy looked so grave and important.
`Why, you see, the girls are always buying them, and unless you want to be thought mean, you must do it too. It’s nothing but limes now, for everyone is sucking them in their desks in school-time, and trading them off for pencils, bead-rings, paper dolls, or something else at recess. If one girl likes another she gives her a lime; if she’s mad with her she eats one before her face, and don’t offer even a suck. They treat by turns; and I’ve had ever so many, but haven’t returned them; and I ought, for they are debts of honour, you know.’

I’m still laughing over Amy’s line: “If one girl likes another she gives her a lime; if she’s mad with her she eats one before her face, and don’t offer even a suck.”

Here’s my debt of honour - paid!

*grin*

I was tagged way back by Eija and Jeanne to do a “Six Things”  meme.

In Eija’s meme I’m supposed to list six things that definitely do not differentiate me from my fellow human beings. Here we go.

  • I have blue eyes and brown hair - very common, at least in Canada.
  • I am 5 ft 4.5 - which is average height for a woman even though my best friend who is 5ft 8 doesn’t really believe me…
  • I wear blue jeans almost every day.
  • I drink coffee for breakfast every day
  • I eat cereal for breakfast every day
  • I like peanut butter ~ a lot. which in North America, is fairly common.
OK I’m not only not different - I’m boring

Let’s try to spice it up a bit with Jeanne’s meme in which I am to list 6 random things about myself.

I looked up the meaning of random - Having no specific pattern, purpose, or objective.

  • and that’s my first random thing - I love to look up the meaning of words.
  • I love to read children’s books - fiction - usually more than adult fiction. I know that you already know that about me but did you know the second part? that I actually like kids’ books better than adults?
  • except old fiction - classic fiction - like Dickens and Austen.
  • I have yet to find a modern “Christian fiction” book that I would say I loved as some of my favourites. Isn’t that a shame? Please introduce me to one. One exception -  Christy - I  love that book. And that isn’t really a modern book.
  • I love hot milk in my coffee. I have it every morning.
  • I adore babies - yes it almost comes close to idol worship - I LOVE them   - I could “eat them up” as my MIL says - my daughter is the same way. A very strong maternal streak.
*sigh*

Not really spicy, is it?

OK, since I’m on a roll, I think I’ll take a crack at Suzanne’s Friday’s Fave 5

1.  It’s the end of Sept and I still have beautiful blooms!

2. These antique tractors on display during the 70 Mile Yardsale - if I had a pocket full of $, I’d buy one for my beloved.

3. These colours - the frothy whitecaps, the sapphire sea , the tawny horse with the creamy mane.

4. Watching the progress of the  “Sophie Project”

5. weather still warm enough for bare feet

Well, I can hear the thump of wood along with some sweet whistling outside.

My beloved gets the same satisfaction stacking rows of dry winter wood in the shed as I do with my rows of mustard pickles on the basement shelves.

He has an added incentive to get the woodpile under cover today.

It sounds as if  Kyle may come to visit us this weekend.

I better go and admire his work  - take the camera - plan a blog post around woodpiles :)

Hope you have a wonderful weekend my friends!
