A Sparrow's Home

How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young, a place near your altar, O LORD Almighty, my King and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you. Psalm 84:1-4

bookish

Rain and wind outside.

Coziness inside.

A good time for reading.

In the current bookpile:

1. Kristen Lavransdatter ~ by Nobel laureate Sigrid Undset.

A trilogy of historical novels

set in 14th century Norway.

A beloved re-read.

2. Journey Through The Night by Anne DeVries

I read it in one weekend,

now 19 yr old daughter is reading it

and husband is in line.

Thanks to Ann and Caleb V for the recommendation.

Check out Caleb's list of best books for more.

3. The Library a picture book by Sarah Stewart

Elizabeth Brown doesn't like to play with dolls and she doesn't like to skate. What she does like to do is read books. Lots of books. The only problem is that her library has gotten so big she can't even use her front door anymore. . .

As a fellow bibliophile, I have deep sympathy for Elizabeth and the problem of too many books :)

Linger over the charming illustrations by David Small.

HT  Nan at Letters from A Hill Farm and Book Psmith - thanks!

4. David Rocco's Dolce Vita

I've never watched the show but the book is a lovely read.

Gorgeous photography

Classic Italian recipes

First on my list to try ~ a Bolognese sauce with cream.

fire crackling in the woodstove

lamplight flickering

a simple supper

and

books.

What could be better?

with love,

Kathie,
Kristin Lavransdattar is one of my all time favorite books. Not always an easy go, but worth it. Powerful themes of grace.

Fire, lamplight, books - sounds delightful!

I am reading THE HOUSE ON MANGO STREET by Sandra Cisneros. It is a bunch of short stories (some are VERY short) about her growing up years. Very good!

Hmmm, you've given me some ideas for books to check out... not that there's a stack of books from my aunt waiting patiently. Bolognese with cream sounds like just the thing for a cozy evening by the fire with a book nearby.

Sounds dreamy...
Love the soup and bread photo.
I just finished The Willows in Winter and am now reading the Tale of Applebeck Farm which is another in the series of Hill Top Mysteries with Beatrix Potter as the main character. Just fun pleasant reading to take me away :0)
Have a great week Kathie...

It sounds like a perfect way to spend some fallish evening. I found some books that I will take on my vacation.
Journey through the Night. I've written that down..

Niki - glad you could get some of the books. Library is the way I go - and Interlibrary loan when I can't get it at our local branch.

Beth - yes it's a classic read - a little challenging - but the new translation by Penguin is supposed to be much superior. Have you read it?

Ooh Randi - I was able to request your book at our library - yay!

Anne - I'll take some photos of the Bolognese sauce cooking adventure.

Ellen - I enjoyed that sequel too. I haven't gotten into the Beatrix Potter mysteries. But I'm starting anther series - first book called The Beekeeper's Apprentice -so far so good.

Marg - It's a young adult book - but wonderful. I got it through Inter-library loan.

Hooray! Book talk :)

Thank you for your comment....and, yes, that is the same Alan Bennett. Not really my favorite, but interesting, and read mostly on the recommendation of our tour guide in England. I did uncommonly enjoy The Uncommon Reader (grin)...

Sounds like the perfect evening when there's wind and rain outside! Your description of it is wonderful. I must try Journey Through The Night, after reading that you finished it in one weekend. Sounds like my husband and I when we started reading the Harry Potter books.

Just sent your recommendation of "Journey Through the Night" to my DIL, who was looking for a good book to read to take along on a cabin getaway. It sounded like something she would love. I can never tire of reading others' lists of good books. Thanks for sharing these.

I can't think of anything better:) I am so glad you liked The Library. I haven't tried standing on my head while reading and pretty sure I won't be trying it anytime soon.
