seeing. . .
Monday, November 17, 2008 at 11:16AM
I’ve been humming this tune with a slight change in the lyrics
“I can see clearly now,
the rain is
the leaves are gone.”
I’m used to what might be called “fluidity” in song lyrics.
My beloved is constantly singing
and not knowing the lyrics has never been an impediment to this cheery habit.
His songs are a bit of a family tradition and
he has taken quite a bit of good-humoured teasing from the family for his odd lyrics.
I have to confess, that in the past,
I even had a few moments of tiny irritation
when he would sing one of my favourite songs with his incredibly random lyrics.
But that’s when I was young and foolish.
I see more clearly now
and I think it’s one of his most endearing qualities.

And that is just the segue into what I thought was the real subject of this post:
Seeing clearly now that the leaves are gone :)
Like this bird that I saw on a walk through the woods last week.

A female ruffled grouse, sitting so still and staring straight ahead.
I’m sure she thought she was completely camouflaged
but there she was, in plain view.
R and I had to get out our trusty old bird book to make sure we were identifying her correctly.

A great book - we’ve worn out several copies over the years.

But now, as so often happens in my blogging experience,
I’m thinking about something different.
Isn’t it funny, how you can begin to write about one topic
and then end up with something quite unexpected.
The creative springs begin to flow just by the act of putting the fingers to the keyboard.
What about you?
Are your blog posts planned?
Do you like to follow the memes like Menu Monday or Thankful Thursday?
What inspires you?
Your photography, your reading?
Current events, another blog post?
Do you write more like a letter to a friend? Or a record of family events?
Or are you more likely to just sit down and write as your imagination leads?
I’m always surprised at the vast amount of topics that are covered on the blogosphere.
Where do you find your ideas?
Inquiring minds want to know :)
Happy Monday my friends!
balderdash, malarkey, folderol and other miscellus . . .

Donna is looking for funny words today
My brain was tired so I googled “funniest word” and came upon this site -
The 100 Funniest Words in English
These words are used commonly in PEI and the Maritimes but more often with the older generation than the younger.
Words like:
bamboozle - To cheat or deceive.
donnybrook - An melee, a riot. (or a fight in a hockey game…)
filibuster- Refusal to give up the floor in a debate to prevent a vote. (a common practise in Canadian parliament)
flibbertigibbet Nonsense, (we would use this to describe a person who is foolish or flighty)
flummox To exasperate - (unable to solve a problem - “This math problem has me flummoxed!”)
gobbledygook Nonsense, balderdash (more commonly used to describe words that can’t be understood - “Those politicians are full of gobbledygook!”
hornswoggle To cheat or deceive (usually to do with money or trading)
hullabaloo An uproar or scandal
kerfuffle Nonsense, balderdash - (we would use this word to describe a fuss over nothing - Buying the choir gowns caused quite a kerfuffle… ((sorry - I’m a pastor’s wife))
lollygag To move slowly, fall behind - My mother would say to me “Stop lollygagging about” whenever I was wasting time.
malarkey Nonsense, balderdash - If someone was trying to pull one over on me, I’d say “Get out here - you’re full of malarkey!”
mollycoddle To treat too leniently.
namby-pamby Weak, with no backbone - (Quite an insult)
shenanigan Prank. (in a fun way - the kids were full of shenanigans at the party)
whippersnapper An upstart, a smart guy - (usually an older person will refer to a younger person with this term)
Our family has even invented a new word - flustrated.
It describes how you feel when you are both frustrated and flustered.
Very useful….
How about you? What’s the funniest word you’ve heard? Has your family invented a new word?
And since Donna got this whole thing started, I’ll end with one of her phrases,
“See you in the comments!”
words
Friday, October 6, 2006 at 10:31AM Here are the rules - Suzanne has given me four words and I am to write what those words mean to me. Then I get to tag four more people with words of my own choosing...
OK - here is what comes to mind when I think of the following words:
Teach - Deut. 11:18-21
Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land that the LORD swore to give your forefathers, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.
Shrill - *sigh* my voice sometimes...
Memento - a tiny shell that I keep in my purse. I picked it up when we were walking along the beach praying for Alaska. It reminds me of a promise I made to go there someday, Lord willing.
Abundance - I think of autumn as a season of abundance - the scarlet and orange maples, the russet oaks, the golden beech - bins and wagonloads of pumpkins, potatoes and apples - barns bursting with golden grain and hay - jams and jellies, preserves and pickles, all lined up in their clear glass jars - woodpiles, dried and neatly stacked, waiting for the first chilly evening - brilliant blue skies - stunning sunsets reflected in the sea - and golden harvest moons.
Everywhere you look there is evidence of the Lord's extravagant provision - a perfect time for celebrating the harvest and giving thanks as we gather around our Thanksgiving table this weekend.
Now...for my 4 words
- solace
- ripple
- hush
- giggle
Isn't "giggle" a funny word? It makes me smile just to write it down.
Now...who wants to play? I will tag if no one voluntarily jumps into the game. I'm looking forward to your replies.
I think there must have been a Seals' Convention down off Cameron's Island.

Look at the little guy peeking over his mama. Seals are so curious!

This fellow was the main speaker...
It's a bee - you - tee - full day. I am heading out, with camera in hand, and my photo-taking friend Rinda, and we are going to record "An Island Autumn" for you.
Hope your day is full of beauty too.
